The sturdy and staunch Blue Family makes sure Kevin Will Jr.’s first day of school is unforgettable

There are very few things that are more important to a parent or child than the first day of school.

Every parent wants to make that day as memorable as possible for that young boy or girl as they start that new adventure.

Alisha Will was no different.

As you all know, Kevin Will tragically lost his life in the line of duty on May 29, 2011. At that time his wife Alisha was pregnant with Kevin Jr.

As the time approached for Kevin Jr to attend his first day of school at Wild Wood Elementary, Alisha thought it would be special if some officers would come out and support him on that all-important day since his dad could not be there.

Without hesitation, Alisha and Kevin Jr’s Blue Family leaped into action. In a combined effort from the Houston Police Officers Union, Houston Law Enforcement Officers Family Support Unit and Thin Blue Line Motorcycle Group, the word went out that Kevin Jr needed some backup on his first day of school.

His Blue Family delivered!

On that historic morning of Aug. 22, more than 150 officers helped walk Kevin Jr to school.

Included in that escort were members of the HPD Mounted Patrol Unit with a dozen horses, K9 Officers, officers from nearly every division, and even officers from as far away as Fort Worth and the Rio Grande Valley.

But we didn’t stop there.

In addition to the ground support for Kevin Jr, we called in the Air Support as well. While he was walking to school, Fox did a fly-over above the neighborhood and school.

It was truly a touching event for everyone that attended and I believe it made for a day that Alisha and Kevin Jr. will not soon forget.

It’s just another example of just how powerful our Blue Family is here in Texas. And we all should be proud to be a member of that family – who also will never, ever forget Kevin’s father, HPD Officer Kevin Will Sr.
