Editorial: Houston Runoff Endorsements
Tom Kennedy
THE HPOU POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE HAS CAREFULLY screened each candidate in the city’s Dec. 12 runoff election.
The PAC believes that candidate Sylvester Turner, a long-time HPOU supporter in the Legislature as one of the state’s most influential state representatives, is far and away the better choice for mayor of Houston. Turner has stood strong for our interests and will continue to do so at City Hall.
There also are runoffs affecting the city controller and seven City Council races. Where incumbents are involved, the PAC always invokes the “friendly incumbent rule” and continues to endorse these candidates. Other races are open due to term limitations, in which case each major candidate was screened and the PAC endorsements found to be the worthiest in the race.
Here are the HPOU PAC endorsements in the Dec. 12 runoff election:
Mayor — Sylvester Turner
Controller — Chris Brown
At Large Position 1 — Georgia Provost
At Large Position 2 — David Robinson (Incumbent)
At Large Position 4 — Amanda Edwards
At Large Position 5 — Jack Christie (Incumbent)
District F — Richard Nguyen (Incombent)
District H — Jason Cisneroz
District J — Mike Laster (Incumbent)
