The Houston Gunners F. C. (football club), the department’s soccer team, will take on the Houston Fire Department in a special fundraising “Guns and Hoses” event following the Houston Dynamo match the evening of April 25 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Team spokesman John Huston said the team hopes to break a two-game losing streak from previous years but stressed the main hope is to raise more funds for the Assist The Officer Foundation.
“We raised $6,000 last year but it keeps going up year after year,” Huston said, explaining that the Dynamo contributes a portion of ticket sales receipts to the ATO and also to the Firefighters Helping Firefighters charity on behalf of the HFD team.
The Dynamo match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., while the Guns and Hoses event will take place immediately following.
Huston has been a part of the HPD soccer team for more than 30 years.
