The HPOU awarded 77 college scholarships to the sons and daughters of Union members who will be experiencing their first semester of college this fall.

Overall, the Union’s 2nd Vice President Joe Gamaldi presented a total of $34,000 in scholarships to the next members of freshman classes. The special awards ceremony took place on April 9 at HPOU.

Each scholarship winner submitted an application, transcripts and an essay.  Essays were graded by a retired teacher who didn’t know the names on the applications. Scholarship awards ranged from $250 to $1,000.

This year’s essay answered the following question: Do you feel the perceptions of law enforcement have been helped or hindered by the advent of social media?
