HPOU’s annual Family Picnic – as always – labeled A huge success with great weather and lots of fun

HPOU Family Picnic Committee Chairman Dan Levine was ecstatic about the turnout and the amount of fun enjoyed by the estimated 1,500 HPD officers and their families who attended the Nov. 3 event at its new venue, Oil Ranch on Highway 290 near Hockley.

“It was a blast, man,” Levine reported. “Everybody had a good time. There were families all over the place. Everyone loved the hayride, the train, milking the cows and the basketball and mini-golf.

“Minus the wind there were no hiccups along the way.”

The annual HPOU-sponsored family event has changed locations through the years. But Levine believes Oil Ranch was a winner and should be the picnic venue for next year as well.

All of the various activities were outside on the large plot of fun-loaded rides and physical activities, which also featured assorted gifts at the end of the day for raffle winners.

Levine said the sponsors who donated raffle gifts were:

  • 11 Woodlands
  • Relentless Defender Apparel
  • Molen and Associates
  • Toyota World of Spring
  • HPD Boxing Team and Softball Team
  • HPD Family Support Unit
  • AT&T First Net
  • Houston Police Credit Union
  • Public Safety Financial Group(were not present, but donated a raffle gift)

Among the fun was a petting zoo, a lake for fishing, softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, the hayride and train, miniature golf, the Kid Hopper, an Indian village, a pony ride, the cow-milking, a Texas history exhibit and a horseshoe pit.

Just wait’ll next year!
