CLOYES

Retired Sergeant John H. Cloyes passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife Nancy Cloyes. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 16, 1953, Academy Class No.10. During his career with the department, Sergeant Cloyes was assigned to the Patrol Bureau, Juvenile, Burglary and Theft, and Major Offenders Divisions. He retired on August 15, 1989.  Services were held March 9 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

 

DOTY

Mrs. Joyce Ann Doty passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018, at the age of 79. She is the wife of Retired Sergeant Thomas, L. Doty, last assigned to the Special Operations Division, retiring on September 11, 1993. Services were held March 3.

 

GRACE

Mr. Paul Grace passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He is the brother of Senior Police Officer Jacob E. Maynor, assigned to the Downtown Division.

 

GROVES

Mrs. Betty Jean Pouncy Groves passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the age of 77.  She is the mother of Sergeant Norris W. Groves, assigned to the Mental Health Division. She is the cousin of Lieutenant Ronald P. Sweet, assigned to the Homicide Division, Sergeant Frederick E. Groves, assigned to the South Gessner Division, Senior Police Officer Gwendolyn Gilford,  assigned to the Southeast Division, Senior Police Officer Vincent A. Taylor, Night Command, Senior Police Officer Clifford M. Jackson, assigned to the South Gessner Division, Senior Police Officer Don E. Henry, assigned to the South Central Division, Retired Senior Police Officer Reginald M. Harris, Retired Senior Police Officer Ronald F. Davis and Retired Senior Police Officer Edith H. Renfro. Services were held March 10 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 

HEENAN

Mrs. Irene Heenan passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the age of 71. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Francis J. Heenan, Jr., assigned to the North Division. Services were held February 19 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

 

MARINO

Mr. Henry Andrew Marino passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the age of 82. He is the father of Retired Lieutenant Steven L. Marino, last assigned to the Tactical Operations Division, retiring on January 8, 2011.

 

MONK

Mr. Timothy Darren Monk passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the age of 43. He is the brother of Administration Manager Jeffrey C. Monk, assigned to the Office of Public Affairs.

Services were held February 24 in Leesville, Louisiana.

 

 

NICKERSON

Mrs. Sanperlita Nickerson passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the age of 86. She is the mother of Retired Sergeant Marvin C. Nickerson, last assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division, retiring on August 28, 2015; grandmother of Sergeant Darryl L. Adams, II, assigned to the South Gessner Division; and aunt of Senior Police Officer Timmy R. Walker, assigned to the Narcotics Division. Services were held February 17.

 

PENA

Retired Lieutenant David M. Pena passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the age of 59. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 3, 1985, Academy Class No. 131. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Westside, Traffic and Accident, Jail, Southwest, Airport/ Hobby, Internal Affairs, Southeast, and Clear Lake Divisions. Lieutenant Pena retired on June 6, 2015.  Services were held March 16 in Sugar Land.

 

 PRICE

Ms. Keisha D. Price passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the age of 30. She is the sister of Police Service Officer Victor D. Abrams, assigned to the North Division. Services were held February 24 with burial in Conroe.

 

RIMMER

Former Policewoman Emily R. Rimmer Vasquez passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the age of 87. She joined the Houston Police Department as one of the first female Police Cadets on August 8, 1955, Academy Class No. 12. She served for over nine years. She is the mother of Retired Senior Police Officer Gerold W. Rimmer, last assigned to the Clear Lake Division, retiring on November 4, 2017. Services were held February 20 with burial in Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.

 

ROSS

Ms. Rita Falk Tipton passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the age of 63. She is the mother of Police Officer Madeleine G. Pierson, assigned to the Special Victims Division and the mother-in-law of Sergeant Misty M. Pierson, assigned to the Northeast Division. Services were held March 17.

 

RYAN

Retired Police Officer Dean X. Ryan passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife Beverly Ryan. He joined the Houston Police Department on August 21, 1972, Academy Class No. 56. During his career with the department, Police Officer Ryan was assigned to the Traffic Enforcement and Northeast Divisions, retiring on April 4, 1998. Services were held March 2.

 

SMITH

Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Smith passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her son, retired Police Officer Bobby S. Smith on February 12, 2001. She is also the grandmother of Sergeant Bobby G. Smith, assigned to the Jail Division. Services were held February 27 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

TATE

Mrs. Gloria Barnett-Brookins passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the age of 69. She is the sister of Police Administrator Dr. Steven L. Tate, assigned to the Psychological Services Division. Services were held March 7 with burial in Homewood, Illinois.

 

TIPTON

Ms. Rita Falk Tipton passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the age of 63. She is the mother of Police Officer Madeleine G. Pierson, assigned to the Special Victims Division and the mother-in-law of Sergeant Misty M. Pierson, assigned to the Northeast Division. Services were held March 17.

 

TUSA

Mr. Joseph Charles Tusa, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at the age of 59. He is the brother of Police Communications Specialist II Phillip A. Tusa, assigned to the Office of Technology Services. Services were held March 17 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

 

VALDEZ

Mrs. Lucy F. Valdez passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the age of 91. She is the mother of Retired Sergeant Arthur A. Valdez, last assigned to the Eastside Division, retiring on January 6, 1992; and grandmother of Police Officer Matthew A. Sudduth, assigned to the North Division.

Services were held March 10 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

 

WALTERS

Mrs. Obedah Marion Walters passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the age of 86. She is the widow of Retired Police Officer J.D. Walters, who retired on March 31, 1989, and passed away on September 12, 1997. Services were held March 3 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

 

WELLS

Retired Police Officer Michael D. Wells passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the age of 67. He is survived by his wife Brenda Jan Wells. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 9, 1975, Academy Class No. 70. During his career with the department, Police Officer Wells was assigned to the Northwest Division, Emergency Communications Division and Special Operations Division until his retirement on July 8, 1999. Services were held March 1 with burial in Klein Memorial Park.

 

WILSON

Police Officer James T. Wilson passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the age of 38. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 4, 2001, Academy Class No. 179. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the South Central Division, Jail Division and South Gessner Division. Services were held March 10 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

 

WIZINSKY

Retired Lieutenant Ronald E. Wizinsky passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the age of 65. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 9, 1975, Academy Class No. 70. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Robbery Division, Southwest Division, Employment Services Division, Vice Division and Auto Theft Division. Lieutenant Wizinsky was last assigned to the Robbery Division until his retirement on May 8, 2004. Services were held March 17 in Plantersville.

 

 ZUNIGA

Mrs. Leticia Zuniga passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the age of 53. She is the mother of Police Officer William R. Zuniga, assigned to the Central Division. Services were held March 17 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
