ABERCIA

Retired Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Jack Faour Abercia Sr. passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at the age of 85. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Patrick R. Abercia, assigned to the Northwest Division, and retired Senior Police Officer David W. Abercia, who was last assigned to the Northeast Division until his retirement on February 9, 2019. He is also the uncle of Police Officer Zachariah R. Abercia, assigned to the Special Victims Division. Services were held April 10 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

ALLEN

Ms. Dorothy Mae Allen passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 93. She is the grandmother of Retired Senior Police Officer Cheryl Fisk, last assigned to the Midwest Division, retiring on April 22, 2017. Services were held April 20 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

BARGANIER

Patsy “Patti” Dale Barganier passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019, at the age 71. She is the sister of Senior Office Assistant Myra White, assigned to the Air and Marine Division. Services were held March 29 with burial in Angleton.

BRANNAM

Retired Police Officer Robert O. Brannam passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the age of 90. He joined the Houston Police Department on April 19, 1954, Academy Class No. 11 and was also a Veteran of the United States Navy. Officer Brannam retired on December 28, 1979.

CANNON

Mr. Lloyd “Bud” Cannon passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the age of 77. He is the father of Public Information Officer John Cannon, assigned to the Office of Public Affairs. Services were held April 6 in Durham, Connecticut.

CRAWFORD, GARY L.

Senior Police Officer Gary L. Crawford passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019, at the age of 55. He is survived by his wife, Sergeant Jodie L. Crawford, assigned to the Central Division, and his brother, retired Senior Police Officer Dale S. Crawford, who was last assigned to the Narcotics Division until his retirement on February 28, 2019. Officer Crawford joined the Houston Police Department on August 25, 1997, Academy Class No. 171. During his career, he was assigned to the Northeast Division, Special Operations Division, Kingwood Division, Tactical Operations Division and the Air and Marine Division. Services were held March 29 with burial in Klein Memorial Park.

CRAWFORD, GARY W.

Mr. Gary William Crawford passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by his son, Senior Police Officer Gary L. Crawford, who was last assigned to the Air and Marine Division until his passing on March 25, 2019. He is also the father of retired Senior Police Officer Dale S. Crawford, who was last assigned to the Narcotics Division until his retirement on February 28, 2019, and the father-in-law of Sergeant Jodie L. Crawford, assigned to the Central Division. Services were held April 8.

FOLLIS

Mr. Gene E. Follis passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the age of 80. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Follis. He is the father of Commander Paul Q. Follis, assigned to the Narcotics Division, and Retired Sergeant Derek P. Follis, last assigned to the Records Division; and father-in-law of Lieutenant Rebecca S. Follis, assigned to the Internal Affairs Division. Mr. Follis was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

GERARD

Mr. Dominique P. Gerard passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019, at the age of 72. He is the father of Lieutenant Brian M. Bueno, assigned to the Training Division. Services were held May 10 in Angleton.

GLAZE

Mr. Clarence Glaze passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the age of 80. He is the father of Sergeant Samuel Glaze, assigned to the Office of Legal Services. Services were held April 13.

GOMEZ

Mr. Anthony Gomez passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, at the age of 65. He is the father of Sergeant Mark A. Gomez, assigned to the North Division; and uncle of Sergeant Francisco R. Gomez, assigned to the North Belt Division. Services were held April 17 with burial in Brookside Memorial Park.

GREEN

Mr. Don L. Green passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the age of 91. He is the father of Sergeant Joanna Green, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division – Solo Motorcycle Detail. Services were held April 12.

HALLIDAY

Mr. Arthur J. Halliday passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the age of 75. He is the father of Lieutenant Jonathon Halliday, assigned to the South Gessner Division. Services were held April 12.

HILL

Ms. Barbara Groves Hill passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2019, at the age of 64. She is the sister of Sergeant Frederick E. Groves, assigned to the South Gessner Division; aunt of Lieutenant Ronald P. Sweet, assigned to the Homicide Division, and Retired Senior Police Officer Edith H. Renfro. She is also the cousin of Sergeant Norris W. Groves, assigned to the Mental Health Division; Senior Police Officer Gwendolyn Gilford, who is currently on Phase Down C; Senior Police Officer Vincent A. Taylor, assigned to the Downtown Division; Senior Police Officer Clifford M. Jackson, assigned to the South Gessner Division; Senior Police Officer Don E. Henry, assigned to the South Central Division; Retired Senior Police Officer Reginald M. Harris and Retired Senior Police Officer Ronald F. Davis. Services were held April 20 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

JELIN

Mr. Aaron Jelin passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the age of 91. He is the father of Sergeant Gregg L. Jelin, assigned to the Midwest Division. Services were held April 11.

KASOWSKI

Retired Captain Marion A. Kasowski passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife, Florence Kasowski. He is the uncle of Retired Sergeant James G. Joswiak, who retired on March 24, 2017. Captain Kasowski was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on March 4, 1957, Academy Class No. 16. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau, Accident Division, Auto Theft Division, Planning Division, and Narcotics Division. Captain Kasowski retired on September 23, 1977, in command of the Police Academy. Services were held April 4 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

KING

Retired Detective Ormond Gene King passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Dixie King. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 8, 1958, Academy Class No. 19. During his career with the department, Detective King was assigned to the Patrol Bureau, Vice Division, and Robbery Division, retiring on August 30, 1983. Services were held April 24 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

MILLER

Mrs. Shirley Joanne Miller passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the age of 84. She is the grandmother of Administrative Associate Lashanda George, assigned to the Office of Budget & Finance. Services were held April 6.

MORAN

Retired Police Officer James Kenneth Moran passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Inez Moran. He is the uncle of Senior Police Telecommunicator Judy D. Hunter, Assigned to the Emergency Communications Division. He joined the Houston Police Department on October 5, 1964, Academy Class No. 31. He was assigned to the Traffic and Accident Division throughout his whole career with the department, until his retirement on October 12, 1985. Services were held April 18.

PIVONKA

Retired Police Officer Albert H. Pivonka passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Laverne E. Pivonka. He joined the Houston Police Department on May 21, 1956, Academy Class No. 14 and was also a Veteran of the United States Army. Officer Pivonka retired on January 16, 1981.

SHEFFIELD

Retired Senior Police Officer Charles C. Sheffield, IV passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the age of 59. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 3, 1980, Class No. 94. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Central, Northeast, Jail, Special Operations, and Burglary & Theft Divisions. Senior Police Officer Sheffield retired on March 11, 2006. Services were held April 6 in Cleveland.

SIMPO

Mrs. Shirley Simpo passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the age of 76. She is the mother of Police Officer Kendrick A. Simpo, assigned to Organizational Development Command. Services were held April 13 with burial in Jacksonville, Florida.

SLINKARD

Mr. Russ Slinkard passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the age of 71.  He was the father of Sergeant Lloyd R. Slinkard, assigned to the Narcotics Division, and Executive Assistant Chief Matt D. Slinkard of Investigative and Special Operations Command.  Mr. Slinkard was a proud veteran of the United States Army and Vietnam War.

STEELMAN

Mr. Ray A. Steelman passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the age of 88. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Alvin R. Steelman, assigned to the Air and Marine Division. Services were held April 10.

TURNER

Mrs. Judy Turner passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 77. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Stephen C. Turner, assigned to the Training Division. Services were held April 26 in Waller.

VASQUEZ

Miss Joanna Michele Vasquez passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the age of 36. She is the sister of Detective Anny J. Vasquez, assigned to the Major Offenders Division. Services were held April 13.

VINCENTO

Mr. Gerald John Vicento passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the age of 81. He is the father of Senior Aircraft Mechanic Jon M. Vicento, assigned to the Air and Marine Division and retired Senior Police Officer Mark A. Vicento who was last assigned to the Westside Division until his retirement on January 6, 2010. Services were held April 18 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer.

WHITE, D

Retired Sergeant David Newton White passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019, at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife, Retired Detective Jessie L. White, who retired on March 11, 1982, out of the Auto Theft Division. Sergeant White joined the Houston Police Department on December 29, 1958, Academy Class No. 20. During his career in the department, he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau, Juvenile Division, and the Police Garage Division, retiring on June 29, 1979.

WHITE, J.

Retired Senior Police Officer Johnny R. White passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the age of 59. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Christopher A. White, assigned to the Airport Division / IAH, and father-in-law of Sergeant David A. Lane, assigned to the Robbery Division. Senior Police Officer White Joined the Houston Police Department on February 7, 1983, Academy Class No. 111. During his career with the department, he was assigned to Northwest Division, Jail Division, Central Division, Training Division, Criminal Investigations Command, and Major Offenders Division, retiring on September 7, 2007. Services were held April 19.
