BETHUNE

Retired Sergeant Wayne E. Bethune passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the age of 68. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 11, 1974, Academy Class No. 67. During his career with the Houston Police Department, he was assigned to the Central Division, South Central Division, Jail Division, and Northeast Division, retiring on July 19, 2003.

Services were held December 1 with burial in Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble.

FRITSCH

Ms. Barbara Elaine Fritsch passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the age of 88. She is the mother of Retired Sergeant Michael L. Muench, last assigned to the Forensic Services Command. He entered Phase Down-C on April 1, 2011.  Services were held December 29 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.             s

 GILBERT

Retired Senior Police Officer Carl C. Gilbert, Jr. passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016, at the age of 75. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He joined the Houston Police Department on August 26, 1968, Academy Class No. 39. During his career with the Houston Police Department he was assigned to the Special Operations Division and the Traffic and Accident Division. He retired on March 15, 2003. Services were held December 30 with burial in Brenham.

HARDY

Mr. Thaddeus Hardy passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016.  He is the stepfather of Operations Supervisor Latarjah “Tasha” Dean, assigned to the Technology Services Division.

Services were held December 3.

HART

Mrs. Thelma Hart passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016, at the age of 93. She is the grandmother of Senior Police Officer Bruce H. Johnson, assigned to the South Central Division.

Services were held December 26 with buril in Paradise North Cemetery.

HOLLAN

Mrs. Debbie Hollan, 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.  She is the mother of Sergeant James G. Joswiak, assigned to the Auto Theft Division.  Services were held December 6 with burial in Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery.

JACKSON

Mr. Roderick Jerome Jackson passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the age of 58. He is the father of Senior Police Service Officer Zipporah Z. Smith, assigned to the Northeast Division. Services were held December 28 with burial in Eight Mile, Alabama.

McBURNETT

Retired Deputy Chief Kenneth L. McBurnett passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Karen A. McBurnett. He started his career with the Houston Police Department on October 6, 1969, Academy Class No. 42. During his career with the Houston Police Department, he was assigned to the Central Division, Northeast Division, and Burglary and Theft Division. On May 7, 1980, he was promoted to Captain. As a Captain he was in command of the Personnel Division and the Jail Division. He was appointed as Deputy Chief on January 18, 1986. Deputy Chief McBurnett retired on March 2, 1990.

MARSHALL

Mrs. Verda M. Marshall passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at the age of 83. She is the mother of Senior Jail Attendant Kenneth R. Marshall, assigned to the Jail Division. Services were held December 10 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 MARTINEZ

Retired Senior Police Officer Frank E. Martinez passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.  He joined Police Academy Class No. 128 on April 15, 1985.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  During his career, he served at the North Division, Central Division, South Central Division Northeast Division, Westside Division, Jail Division Special Operations Division, and retired May of 2007 from the Homicide Division. He is survived by his wife, Kay Martinez.  He is the brother of Retired Senior Police Officer David Martinez, who is married to retired Lieutenant Leslie Martinez. Services were held December 17 with burial in Rosewood Memorial Park North. In Porter.

MINOR-MURRAY

Ms. Brenda Minor-Murray passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016, at the age of 58. She is the sister of Senior Data Entry Operator Carolyn M. Edmonson, assigned to the Records Division. Services were held December 30 in Natchez, Mississippi.

 

MORGAN

Mrs. Laura Morgan passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016.  She is the grandmother of Retired Sergeant Renita Ferguson, grandmother-in-law of Retired Sergeant Roy Ferguson and great-grandmother of Administrative Associate Roshonda Ferguson, assigned to the Office of the Chief of Police.  Mrs. Morgan was 105 years old. Services were held December 20.

MUNDEN

Retired Executive Assistant Chief Kirk A. Munden passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016, at the age of 56. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Munden. He joined the Houston Police Department on January 12, 1981, Academy Class No. 95. During his career with the Houston Police Department, he was assigned to the Central Division, Jail Division, South Central Division, Northeast Division, Emergency Communications Division, Robbery Division and Vice Division. On March 6, 1995, he was promoted to Captain. As Captain, he was in command of the Southeast Division, Burglary and Theft Division, Kingwood Division and Tactical Operations. On August 27, 2005, he was appointed to Assistant Chief. During his tenure as Assistant Chief, he was in command of the Professional Development Command and Special Investigations Command. On September 5, 2009, he was appointed to Executive Assistant Chief.  During his tenure as Executive Assistant Chief, he was in command of Field Operations and Strategic Operations. Executive Assistant Chief Munden retired on September 13, 2014. Services were held December 16.

PRICE

Mrs. Vanessa A. Price passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. She is the mother of Sergeant James E. Skelton, Jr., assigned to the Jail Division. Services were held December 16.

SALDIVAR

Mr. Alfredo Saldivar passed away. he is the brother of Retired Sergeant Jose A. Saldivar, who retired while last assigned to the Robbery Division.

SAWYER

Mrs. Barbara Jean Sawyer passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the age of 74. She is the mother of Mrs. Kelly L. Jones, wife of Senior Police Officer Terry W. Jones, assigned to the Airport Division – IAH, temporarily assigned to the RMS Support Team. Services were held November 30.

SURGINER

Mr. Robert Jackson Surginer passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the age of 93. He is the father of Retired Senior Police Officer Brian T. Surginer. He retired on January 2, 2016, out of the Vice Division. Services were held December 21 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

THOMASON

Mrs. Rose Marie Thomason passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the age of 81. She is the mother-in-law of Senior Police Service Officer Rose Mary Harp, assigned to the Special Victims Division. Services were held December 3.

TYLER

Retired Police Officer Elmer C. Tyler passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016, at the age of 90. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara A. Tyler. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 1, 1959, Academy Class #21. He retired on January 3, 1983, out of the Accident Division. Services were held December 27 with burial in Brookside Memorial Park.

VAN HA

Mr. Chau Van Ha passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the age of 87. He is the father of Police Officer Tommy Ha, assigned to the Northwest Division. Services were held December 28 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

 WATT

Retired Lieutenant William Jean Watt passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the age of 72. He joined the Houston Police Department on August 26, 1968, Academy Class No. 39. During his career with the Houston Police Department he was assigned to the Central Division, Crime Analysis Division, Narcotics Division, Northeast Division, Northwest Division, North Division, Internal Affairs Division, Jail Division, Criminal Intelligence Division, West Patrol Command, Westside Division, and Robbery Division, retiring on April 28, 2004.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Esther Watt, who passed away on January 7, 2010. Services were held December 10.

WRIGHT

Retired Senior Police Officer Michael Brandon Wright passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the age of 57. He started his career as a police officer with the City of Houston Airport Police on January 25, 1982. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 14, 1983, Academy Class No. 117. During his career with the Houston Police Department he was assigned to the Southwest Division, Westside Division, and Homicide Division, retiring on February 10, 2007. Senior Police Officer Michael Brandon Wright is survived by his wife, Sharon R. Wright.

Services were held December 10 with burial in Forest park Westheimer Cemetery.

 YNOSENCIO

Mr. David Ynosencio passed away.  He is the father of Sergeant Michele Ynosencio, assigned to the Internal Affairs Division.
