Ms. Ebony J. Banks passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the age of 18. She is the daughter of Gregory J. Banks, assigned to the Office of Technology Services. Services were held April 1 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

 BEATY

Mr. Samuel L. Beaty passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the age of 82. He is the father of Lieutenant Randall L. Beaty, assigned to the Clear Lake Division. Services were held March 31 with burial in Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.

 BIELSTEIN

Retired Lieutenant R.H. “Sandie” Bielstein passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the age of 72. He was Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife Marsha Bielstein. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 2, 1969, Academy Class No. 41. During his career with the Department, Lt. Bielstein was assigned to the Personnel Division, Central Division, Southwest Division, Narcotics Division, Vice Division, and Homicide Division, retiring on January 3, 1990. Services were held April 9 in Richmond.

 BUCKNER

Mrs. Pearl Buckner passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the age of 78. She is the sister of Senior Police Officer Angelia Evans, assigned to the Westside Division.

 CORREIA

Mrs. Willa Patricia Correia-Harris passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the age of 77. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Neal J.G. Depina Correia, assigned to the Hobby Airport Division. Services were held Marh 25 with burial in Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.

DAZA

Mr. Guadalupe Cortez Daza passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the age of 87. He is the grandfather of Administrative Assistant Sylvia D. Rodriguez, assigned to the Property Room; and grandfather-in-law of Senior Office Assistant Irma Delos Santos Diaz, assigned to the Office of the Chief of Police. Services were held March 30 in Mexico.

GERSTLE

Retired Police Administrator Paula Jean Nelson Gerstle, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the age of 69. She joined the Houston Police Department on April 15, 1987, as a Systems Accountant. She was promoted to Police Administrator (Executive Level) on November 20, 2004. She was assigned to the Office of Budget and Finance throughout her career, retiring on January 26, 2008. Paula is the wife of over 50 years of Retired Senior Trainer Sargent Gerstle, last assigned to the Training Division, whom retired on May 12, 2013. Services were held March 31.

JOHNSON

Mr. John Matthew Johnson passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the age of 30. He is the son of Senior Police Officer John N. Johnson, assigned to the Office of Technology Services; and step-son of Senior Office Assistant Myra Johnson, assigned to the Homicide Division. Services were held April 8 with burial in Milam.

LAURO

Mr. Daniel F. Lauro passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the age of 73. He is the father of Police Officer Kristopher D. Lauro, assigned to the North Division. Graveside services were held March 27 in Evansport, Ohio.

LAZY

Mr. J.D. Lazy passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the age of 95. He is the step-father of Retired Lieutenant Adolph R. Morris, last assigned to the South Gessner Division, retiring on March 26, 2016.  Services were held April 1 with burial in Paradise North Cemetery.

LEONARD

Retired Police Officer Charles M. Leonard Jr. passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife Sonia D. Leonard. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Officer Leonard joined the Houston Police Department on November 16, 1953, Academy Class No. 10 and retired on February 19, 1982. Services were held March 23.

LEVULIS

Mr. Frank W. Levulis passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the age of 94. He is the father of retired Senior Police Officer Timothy Levulis who retired on March 9, 2002.

 LOPEZ

Mr. Raul Oquendo passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the age of 70. He is the father of Police Officer Melissa A. Lopez, assigned to the Jail Division; and father-in-law of Police Officer Andres Lopez, assigned to the Eastside Division. Services were held March 24 with burial in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

MANGANO

Retired Sergeant Collie J. Mangano, Jr. passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat Mangano. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 9, 1975, Academy Class No. 70. During his career with the Department, he was assigned to the Southwest Division, Emergency Communications Division, Central Division, Jail Division, Traffic and Accident Division, and the Traffic Enforcement Division. Sergeant Mangano retired on March 20, 2010. He is the father of Sergeant Collie J. Mangano, III, assigned to the Central Division. Services were held April 12 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

MALDONADO

Vilsen Maldonado, IV passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the age of 17. He is the grandson of Senior Police Officer Vilsen Maldonado, Jr., assigned to the Northwest Division.

Services were held April 4.

NGUYEN-LANAU 

Sergeant Trang Thor Nguyen-Lanau passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the age of 44. He is survived by his wife, Thu A. Mong. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 7, 1994, Academy Class No. 161. During his career with the Department he was assigned to the Southwest Division, North Division, Northwest Division, South Gessner Division, Emergency Communications Division, and Westside Division. Services were held April 8 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer.

PIETSCH

Mr. Gilbert W. Pietsch passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the age of 71. He is the brother of retired Police Officer Clarence M. Pietsch, who retired on November 3, 1987. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, retired Sergeant Weldon W. Markert, who retired on March 17, 1994. Services were held March 13 with burial in Waldeck Cemetery in Round Top.

RASHEED

Mr. Mick Rasheed passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the age of 80. He is the father of Sergeant Nadir Rasheed, assigned to the Jail Division. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

ROSS

Retired Police Officer Kenneth C. Ross passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the age of 82. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Ross. He joined the Houston Police Department on December 28, 1959, Academy Class No. 23. Officer Ross retired on January 7, 1983.

Mrs. Maria Alizia Salinas passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She is the mother of Senior Aircraft Mechanic Roberto Salinas, assigned to the Air Support Division. Services were held March 17 in Mexico.

SIMPSON

Mr. Clyde R. Simpson passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the age of 96. He is the grandfather of Sergeant Robert L. Simpson, assigned to the Crime Analysis and Command Center. Services were held March 25 in Alabama.

THOMAS

Mr. Willie Thomas, Jr. passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the age of 39. He is the brother of Sergeant Anthony D. Thomas, assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Division. Services were held March 28 in Dallas.

WATSON

Mr. Ulis Watson passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the age of 93. He is the grandfather of Data Entry Operator Christa M. McDuell, assigned to the Burglary & Theft Division.

WHITE

Retired Police Officer Donnie E. White passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the age of 71. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 22, 1970, Academy Class No. 45. Throughout his career with the Department he was assigned to the Special Operations Division. Police Officer White retired on July 17, 1997.

WILBORN

Mrs. Sheila D. Wilborn passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the age of 58. She is the mother of Police Officer Jeffrey J. Wilborn, assigned to the Special Victims Division. Services were held April 1 with burial in Union Grove, Wisconsin.

 WILLIAMS

Mr. Edness Williams passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the age of 78. He is the father of City Wrecker Driver James O. Gaskin, assigned to Fleet; and father-in-law of Evidence Technician Meesha H. Jones-Gaskin, assigned to the Property Room. Services were held March 25 with burial in Golden Gate Cemetery.
