Moore

Retired Senior Police Officer James E. Moore, 67, passed away on Dec. 27. He joined Police Academy Class No. 35 on May 1, 1967.  He was assigned to the Mayor’s Security Detail.  James retired after 36 years on April 1, 2003.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon Moore, and brother, retired Senior Police Officer Eugene Moore, who serves as a Deputy with Harris County Constable Precinct 7. Services were held Jan. 3.

Moreira

Mr. Gilberto Moreira passed away on Jan. 25. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Alexander Moreira, assigned to the Narcotics Division. Services were held Jan. 28 with burial in Miami, Florida.

Neal

Delois Neal passed away on Dec. 24. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Dennis R. Neal, assigned to Southeast. Services were held Jan. 3.

Odom

Mrs. Sylvia Carraway Odom, 77, passed away on Jan. 13. She is the mother of Sgt. Robert A. Odom, Jr., assigned to the Criminal Investigations Command.  She is also survived by her husband, Mr. Robert A. Odom, Sr. and children, Donna Fedorchuk and Susan Ard. Services were held Jan. 16 with burial in Darlington, South Carolina.

Pemberton

Don Pemberton passed away Dec. 26. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Rhonda L. Pemberton, assigned to the Identification Division, Crime Scene Unit. Services were held Jan. 10.

Savage

Mrs. Rose Marie Savage, 71, passed away on Dec. 30. She is the mother of Police Officer Thomas “Andy” Savage.  Officer Savage is currently assigned to the Kingwood Division.  She is also survived by her husband of 49 years, Alan Savage, and children, Stacy Waskosky and Alan Savage II. Services were held Jan. 3 with burial in Owensboro, New York.

Smith

Retired Senior Police Officer James M. Smith passed away Jan. 13. Officer Smith joined the Department on Oct. 10, 1984, as a member of Academy Class No. 124.  He was assigned briefly to Westside and was then assigned to Vehicular Crimes where he was assigned for 31 years until he retired Nov. 8, 2014.  He is the brother-in-law of Senior Police Officer Bob Sampiere, assigned to Employee Services.  Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon and their three children.

Services were held Jan. 17 with burial in Greenland Cemetery in Rosenberg.

Stewart

Winifred Stewart passed away on Jan. 18. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Don Henry, assigned to the South Central Division, and mother-in-law of Criminalist Mary K. Childs-Henry, assigned to the Property Division. She is the cousin of Assistant Chief Troy Finner, South Patrol Command, Lt. Ronald P. Sweet, assigned to the Homicide Division, Sgt. Frederick E. Groves, assigned to the South Gessner Division, Senior Police Officer Gwendolyn Gilford, assigned to the Southeast Division, Senior Police Officer Vincent A. Taylor, Night Command, Senior Police Officer Clifford M. Jackson, assigned to the South Gessner Division,  Senior Police Officer Norris W. Groves, assigned to the Southeast Division, and former Police Officer Raymond Groves, Jr., retired Senior Police Officer Reginald M. Harris, retired Senior Police Officer Ronald F. Davis and retired Senior Police Officer Edith H. Renfro. Services were held Jan. 24 with burial in Paradise North Cemetery.

Tan

Mr. Sang Lay Tan, 88, passed away on Jan. 22. He is the father of Police Officer Roth Tan, assigned to the Central Division.  He is also survived by children Keav Poy, Heang Tan, and Sokkhorn Tan. Services were held Feb. 1.

Williams

Rev. Cleophas Williams, 81, passed away on Jan. 4. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Douglas Ray Sutton, assigned to the Inspections Division. Services were held Jan. 10 with burial in Paradise North Cemetery.

Allan

Earline Allan passed away Dec. 22. She is the grandmother of Office Assistant Cherlyn D. Cormier, assigned to Northeast. Services were held Jan. 6 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

Alvarado

Retired Senior Police Officer Antonio Alvarado passed away Jan. 5. Officer Alvarado joined the Department on Oct. 29, 1979 as a member of Academy Class No. 78.  He spent his entire career at North Division with the exception of a Jail rotation, until his retirement March 14, 2000.

Services were held Jan. 12 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

Antley

Retired Police Officer Doyce Antley, 76, passed away on Jan. 16. He joined Police Academy Class No. 28 on May 20, 1963.  Officer Antley was a veteran of the United States Army.  During his career, he served at the Central Division and the Northwest Division and retired on Jan. 25, 1991, while last assigned to the North Division.  Officer Antley is survived by his wife, Kathleen Antley. Services were held Jan. 18 with burial in Groveton.

Baez

Rafael Baez Sr. passed away Dec. 18.  He is the father of Senior Police Officer Rafael Baez Jr., assigned to the Special Operations Division. Services were held Dec. 24 in Grand Prairie with burial in Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Baquet

Retired Administration Manager Allen “Big Al” Baquet, Sr. passed away on Oct. 7. He joined the department on Nov. 3, 1983, and retired on June 1, 2013.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn Valcour Baquet and son Albert. Services were held Oct. 20 in New Orleans. A memorial service in Houston was held Jan. 31.

Barber

Mrs. Linda Susan Barber passed away on De. 30. She has been married to Sgt. Clifford A. Barber (DCO) for exactly 42 ½ years.  Sgt. Barber was last assigned to Traffic Enforcement.  Linda is also survived by daughters, Melissa Holman, Kelly Holmes, Amanda Barber and Stephanie Barber. Services were held Jan. 5 in The Woodlands.

Bashaw

Mrs. Janet Bashaw, 81, passed away on Jan. 6.  She is the surviving spouse of retired Sgt. Benjamin Dale Bashaw, Sr., who passed away in 2012.  She is survived by sons, Ben Bashaw and Robb Bashaw; and daughter Julie Henry. Graveside services were held Jan. 9 in Lovelady.

Bridges

Ella Mae Bridges passed away on Dec. 27. She is the mother-in-law of Senior Police Officer Ann Denise Williams, assigned to Westside, and the aunt of Police Officer Danielle E. Jones, assigned to Southeast. Services were held Jan. 3 with burial in Memorial Gardens.

Darby

Samantha Darby passed away on Jan. 16. She is the mother of Administrative Supervisor Patricia A. Mills, assigned to the Public Affairs Division. Services were Jan. 24.

 Davis, L.

Mr. Leon Davis passed away on Jan. 8. He is the brother of Administrative Associate Evelyn D. Ogbonna, assigned to the Planning Division.  Mr. Davis was a veteran of the United States Army. Services were held Jan. 17 in Los Angeles.

 Davis, T.

Traneka Michelle Davis passed away on Dec. 31. She is the daughter of retired Sgt. Ruben G. Davis, Jr., who now serves as the constable of Fort Bend County Pct. 2. Services were held Jan. 10 with burial in Memorial Gardens.

Dees

Retired Harris County Pct. 2 Deputy Constable Bobby Joe Dees passed away.  He is the brother of Senior Police Officer Lee R. Dees, assigned to the Major Offenders Division. Services were held Jan. 24.

 Duran

Mr. Ezequiel Duran Jr. passed away on Dec. 30. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Ezequiel Duran III, assigned to Night Command and Security Operations.  Mr. Duran was a veteran of the United States Air Force, United States Navy and United States Army.  He served in the Korean War Conflict. Services were held at Houston National Cemetery on Jan. 23.

Escalante

Mr. Perfecto M. Escalante, 82, passed away on Dec. 31. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Ryan Escalante (PD-A).  Mr. Escalante was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War.  He is also survived by children, Mary Alice Rodriguez, Adela Vera, Joyce Morales, Ester Price and Jerry Escalante. Services were held Jan. 6 in Victoria.

Ford

Eula Neal Ford passed away on Jan. 10. She is the sister of retired Senior Police Officer Marcella Guidry, who retired while last assigned to the Community Services Division, and cousin of Senior Police Officer Dennis R. Neal, assigned to the Southeast Division, and Police Officer Douglas Watson Davison, assigned to the Southeast Division. Services were held Jan. 17 with burial in Paradise South Cemetery in Pearland.

Garcia

Mr. Manuel P. Garcia passed away on Dec. 25.   He is the father-in-law of Administrative Associate Jo Ann Garcia, assigned to the Special Operations Division; uncle of retired Sgt. Richard “Rico” Garcia, retired Senior Police Officer David Garcia, Lt. Jose Garcia, assigned to Burglary & Theft Division, Senior Police Officer Steven Garcia, assigned to Central Division, and Senior Police Officer Richard Razo, assigned to Burglary & Theft Division. Services were held Dec. 30 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

Labonte

Retired Sgt. Paul E. Labonte Jr. passed away Jan. 17. Sgt. Labonte joined the Department Aug. 25, 1980 as a member of Academy Class No. 93.  He was assigned to Central, Special Operations, Southeast and the Accident/Traffic Division during his career.  He retired Dec. 30, 2000.  Paul is survived by his wife Naomi and his son. Services were held Jan. 20 with burial in Nacogdoches.

Lara

Mr. Richard Lara, Sr., 75, passed away on Jan. 22. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Henry Lara, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division.  He is also survived by his wife, Santos Lara; and children, Richard Lara, Jr., Arlene Garcia, Rachel Lianas and Amelia Lara. Services were held Jan. 28.

Liner

Mr. Leon Liner, Jr., 55, passed away on Jan. 22. He is the brother of Senior Police Officer Dionne L. McCloud, assigned to the Juvenile Division, Special Victims Unit. Services were held Jan. 27 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.
