Leija

Retired Senior Police Officer Ruben Leija, Jr. passed away on Dec. 12. He joined Police Academy Class No. 82 on June 5, 1978, and retired on Oct. 31, 2009.  He was last assigned to the Eastside Division.  During his career, he also served at the Northeast Division and Vice Division.  He is survived by his wife, Emilia. Services were held Dec. 15 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

 Lohse

Mrs. Thelma Scott Lohse passed away on Christmas Eve.  She is the mother of Lt. Christopher S. Lohse, assigned to the Burglary and Theft Division, Financial Crimes Unit. Services were held Dec. 30 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

McWhorter

Mrs. Isabell McWhorter passed away Dec. 23. She is the surviving spouse of Police Officer Cecil “Mac” McWhorter.  Officer McWhorter was seriously injured in an on-duty police car accident in 1952.  He suffered some brain damage, partial paralysis, impaired sight, hearing and speech.  “Mac” passed away on Feb. 8, 1998.  Mrs. McWhorter is survived by their two children. Services were held Dec. 30 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Perdue

Retired Capt.William Allen “Bill” Perdue, 79, of Ingram, Texas, passed away on Monday, Dec. 1. He joined Police Academy Class No. 18 on April 28, 1958, and retired on May 13, 1979.  After retirement from the department, Bill served as a deputy of the Menard County Sheriff’s Department and in the security department at the Medical Center in Houston.  He is survived by his wife, Neva Keese Perdue, and three daughters, Allyn Glenn, Laura Villarreal and Diane McAndrew. Services were held Dec. 5 with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard.

Ramirez

Marcelinda C. Ramirez passed away Dec. 20. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Pedro Jalomo Jr., who retired from Eastside on Feb. 24, 2007.  Senior Police Officer Jalomo passed away Jan. 5, 2008 while on Phase Down. Services were held Dec. 23 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

Roccaforte

Mrs. Delia Dora Roccaforte passed away on Dec. 5. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Samuel Anthony Roccaforte, assigned to the Vice Division, and grandmother of Police Officer Taylor McLean Roccaforte, assigned to the South Central Division. Services were held Dec. 9 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

Sandel

Retired Police Officer Thomas W. Sandel passed away Nov. 30. Officer Sandel joined the Department Sept. 8, 1958 as a member of Academy Class No. 14 and retired Dec. 15, 1978.  Thomas is survived by his daughter Margaret Gardener; son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Carla Sandel; daughter Wendy Fuller; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Marguerite Sandel and step-son Billy Ritcher.

Scroggins

Daisy Scroggins (103) passed away on Dec. 8. She is the mother of retired Lt. J. L. Scroggins.  Lt. Scroggins was assigned to Northeast Patrol at the time of his retirement on March 26, 2005.

 Shahdaiah

Sarid Shahdaiah passed away Dec. 3. He is the son of Senior Customer Service Clerk Debbie S. Shahdaiah, assigned to the Emergency Communications Division. Services were held Dec. 10.

Stivers

Jack C. Stivers passed away Nov. 17. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Chad W. Stivers (Burglary and Theft) and the grandfather of Police Officer Chase W. Stivers (Northeast).  Mr. Stivers is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda, and their children. Services were held Dec. 1.

Underwood

Mr. Kenneth E. Underwood passed away on Christmas Day. He is the father-in-law of Senior Police Officer Randall Myrick, assigned to the Mounted Patrol Unit.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and served for over 20 years with the Marquez Volunteer Fire Depa

Bearden

Retired Sgt. Wayne H. Bearden passed away Dec. 4, 2014.  He is the father of Police Officer Dustin Bearden, assigned to the North Division. Wayne joined Academy Class No. 81 on March 13, 1978, and retired on Feb. 4, 2011.  During his career he served at the Central Division, Jail Division, Special Operations Division, Burglary and Theft Division, and retired while last assigned to the Major Offenders Division.  He is also survived by his wife, Laura Bearden and children, Kristen Herrington, Michelle Griffis, Wade Bearden, Ryan Bearden and Joshua Bearden. Services were held Dec. 12 with burial in Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.

Brooks

Former Police Officer William “Bill” Brooks passed away on Nov. 23.  He joined Police Academy Class No. 74 on March 29, 1976, and was last assigned to the Southwest Division.  He is the uncle of Sgt. Jack A. Harvey, assigned to the Burglary and Theft Division. He is also survived by his wife, Aglaia Brooks; daughter, Crystal Brooks and son, Ambrose Brooks. Graveside services were held Nov. 29 in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Bush

Mrs. Earlie Maye Bush, 75, passed away Dec. 20. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Darrin “DK” Bush, assigned to the Narcotics Division. Services were held Dec. 27 with burial in Paradise South Cemetery in Pearland.

Chapman

Amelia Apostolos Chapman, age 89, passed away Dec. 11. She is the mother of Senor Police Service Officer Margaret Guillory, assigned to IAH airport K-9 explosive detection division. Services were held Dec. 16 in Grove City, Ohio.

 Cobb

Mr. Carl Elbert Cobb, 83, passed away on Dec. 17. He is the father of Sgt. Kendall E. Cobb, assigned to the Jail Division.  He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Anita Cobb.

A memorial funeral service was held Dec. 27 in Sheffield, Alabama.

Clark

Senior Contract Administrator Teresa K. Clark, assigned to the Crime Lab, was involved in a major vehicle accident and passed away on Nov. 21. She is survived by her daughter, Melyssa Andrews and grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 7 in Spring.

Cook

Retired Senior Police Officer David W. Cook passed Nov. 30. He joined Police Academy Class No. 64 on April 1, 1974.  During his career, he served at the Northwest Division, Emergency Communications Division and North Division.  He retired on July 16, 2010.  He is survived by his wife, Jane Cook. Services were held Dec. 5 with burial inForest Park Lawndale.

Ellis

Retired Senior Police Officer Donald L. Ellis passed away on Dec. 8. He joined Police Academy Class No. 84 on Oct. 25, 1978.  He retired on Oct. 1, 2005, while last assigned to the Southwest Division.  He is the cousin of Senior Police Officer Latishia Ellis-Neely, assigned to the Office of the Chief of Police and who is married to Sgt. M. Neely, assigned to the Vice Division. He is survived by his children, Chante’ Ellis, Christopher Ellis, Elaine White and Stephen Ellis. Services were held Dec. 12.

Foroi

Retired Sgt. Jesse Foroi, Jr. passed away on Dec. 6. He joined Police Academy Class No. 20 on Dec. 29, 1958.  During his career, he served at the Jail Division, Air Support Division and the Traffic/Accident Division.  He retired on July 16, 2003.  Sgt. Foroi was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Foroi on May 28, 2014.  He is survived by his grandchildren, Anthony and Stefanie, his great-granddaughter, Hannah Hall. He also was a mentor of Sgt. Lyman Ross, assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Division.

Garcia

Mr. Manuel P. Garcia passed away on Dec. 25. He is the father-in-law of Administrative Associate Jo Ann Garcia, assigned to the Special Operations Division; Uncle of retired Sgt. Richard “Rico” Garcia, retired Senior Police Officer David Garcia, Lt. Jose Garcia, assigned to Burglary & Theft Division, Senior Police Officer Steven Garcia, assigned to Central Division, and Senior Police Officer Richard Razo, assigned to Burglary & Theft Division.

Gunnels

Retired Police Officer Bobby L. Gunnels passed away Dec. 14. Officer Gunnels joined the Department June 11, 1973 as a member of Academy Class No. 60.  He spent his career assigned to the Special Operations Division until retirement Oct. 1, 1993. Services were held Dec. 17.

Gutierrez

Mr. Aurelio Gutierrez, 84, passed away on Dec. 3. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Mario A. Gutierrez, assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division/Dignitary Protection Unit. Services were held Dec. 6 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

Henry

Retired Sgt. Emmette F. Henry, 87, passed away on Dec. 5. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He joined Police Academy Class No. 3, on Sept. 12, 1949.  During his career, he served at the Burglary and Theft Division and Major Offenders Division.  Emmette retired on Feb. 8, 1988.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Billie Jo Henry. He is the father of retired Lt. Terry F. Henry, who retired on June 12, 2004. Services were held Dec. 10 with burial in Stockdale Cemetery.
