UPDATE: Please Help Officer Garcia

Update:

Syndicated radio show “Texas Home Improvement with Jim Dutton” presents injured Houston police officer, Ramiro Garcia, and family fully renovated home that they will be seeing for the first time.

Houston, Texas, Saturday May 28th – At approximately 10:30am, the state’s largest Home Improvement radio show, Texas Home Improvement with Jim Dutton, will present to Ramiro Garcia’s family their home with over $90,000 worth of renovations as part of the Overhaul For A Hero program created by the radio show. The project represents a true community effort as over 20 companies and many local police officers came together to make this possible. This will be the fifth effort by the radio show to help a public servant in the last four years. Renovations include remodel of master bath and guest bath; kitchen and landscaping; as well as a new HVAC system, home electrical and plumbing and much more.

On June 30, 2013, Garcia, a five year officer on the Houston Police Force, was traveling home with his family after attending a wedding. When the rear tire had a blowout the vehicle crashed and Officer Garcia was ejected from the car. His injuries have left him bound to a wheelchair. He now lives with his parents and requires care around the clock. His mother is no longer working so that she can be home with Ramiro. Jim Dutton has visited the Garcia’s home and knew that the Texas Home Improvement Team could make a significant and lasting impact on the lives of the family.
.
“The outpouring of support for this project has been humbling. The companies and individuals that stepped up to help Officer Garcia and his family have touched us, the community and beyond.” Says Dutton, host of Texas Home Improvement. “One of the incredible aspects of this project has been the devotion of the police officers to help one of their own. They volunteered hundreds of hours to this project and took up any task put in front of them. We hope that in some small way this project tells police officers, and others serving our community, that we appreciate what they do each and every day. The response from our team has been overwhelming and it is amazing to see the community come together to transform the life of one of our local heroes.”

This overhaul will include products and services donated by Texas Home Improvement sponsors. The Houston home was remodeled to create a wheelchair friendly environment and to simplify the care process for Officer Garcia’s parents. Products include: a Carrier HVAC system installed by Du-West Services; energy efficient windows by America’s Choice Windows; major remodeling by Victor’s Remodeling & Construction; paint provided by Valspar & Ace Hardware, new roof provided by Guardian Roof Systems; bathroom and kitchen fixtures provided by Bath & Kitchen Showplace; siding provided by James Hardie Siding and flooring provided by Floor & Décor. The Garcias will receive this estimated $90,000 overhaul thanks to the generosity of Texas Home Improvement sponsors and the support of Houston Police Officers Union. The project would typically take several months to complete, but the team of contractors was able to do it in just a few weeks.

Calling all Officers to help one of our own. As you know Officer Garcia was paralyzed in a tragic car accident and his home is in desperate need of renovation. We are attempting to raise $18,000 and need your help!
The remodel has a set date of May 10th to May 17th. We will need volunteers to provide the manpower for the remodel. The more Officers we can get the better.
