Officer Horacio Pineda of the Robbery Division was named Investigator of the Month in the HPOU’s February general membership meeting.

Pineda was nominated by his lieutenant, Ernest Garcia “to recognize Officer Pineda for his outstanding investigation that resulted in the arrest of four suspects that were charged with aggravated robbery.”

Lt. Garcia said that the arrested suspects are also being linked to a series of home invasions. On Dec. 25, 2014 an off-duty Galena Park officer and his girlfriend were involved in an auto accident. After the accident, the other vehicle left the scene of the accident while the off-duty officer was checking on their wellbeing.

The officer and his girlfriend followed the vehicle a short distance from the accident into an apartment complex parking lot where the FSGI vehicle stopped. The officer got out of his vehicle to approach the FSGI vehicle and to wait for on-duty Houston police units.

“Almost immediately after getting out his vehicle a red Hummer drove up and three to four individuals exited and approached the off-duty officer,” Garcia said. “Immediately, the officer was struck in the head and fell to the ground where at least four suspects assaulted him. The officer’s gun was taken along with other possessions.”

This off-duty police officer suffered a broken nose, broken ribs, broken facial bones and a broken leg, which occurred when the suspects ran over the officer with their vehicle. The girlfriend of the officer suffered a broken nose.

“Officer Pineda was able to use a vehicle license plate given at the scene which enabled him to develop one suspect at a time until all four suspects were identified,” Garcia said. “Each suspect was interviewed by Officer Pineda, who obtained full confessions from each.

“Officer Pineda obtained arrest warrants for each suspect and all four suspects are now in custody charged each with aggravated robbery,” the lieutenant said. “Officer Pineda worked tirelessly in this case to identify four suspects who seriously injured, assaulted, and robbed a police officer and his girlfriend.

“His dedication to duty is an example to follow and I congratulate him on an outstanding job.”
